The Fading Murals

Ernest Zacharevic’s series of murals has been the centre of attention for much of 2012 since they were created by the young artist during the George Town Festival 2012. The artworks were loved by both locals and tourists alike, and have even inspired various merchandises such as t shirts, stickers, bookmarks, notebooks and much more.

It seems, however, that their time is coming to an end. The wear and tear from the weather as well as the endless throng of visitors has affected the artworks, and some, such as the one on a Chew Jetty house, are even damaged beyond recognition.

When quizzed about the situation during an interview with Sin Chiew Daily, Zacharevic reveals that the works of the Mirrors series are meant to last for a limited time. As a matter of fact, it the works have lasted longer than expected.

The artist also reveals that no repairs are planned for the murals–the works have achieved their purpose due to that he mentions he isn’t sad to see them fading away.
